The Inferno Club is a fictional South Boston bar first appearing in Nathaniel J. Nelson's novel Erogrendel. It was the regular drinking spot of Detective Isaac Parry, whose usual bartender was Vinny Howell. The name of the bar reflects Dante's Inferno, also the basis for the name of The Seventh Circle Institute for Paranormal Research, a nonprofit that continually harassed Parry.[1]
The Inferno Club would later feature in Seventh Circle, a standalone spin-off of Erogrendel starring Vinny Howell. Set more than a year after the events of Erogrendel, Seventh Circle sees Vinny still bartending, though Parry has disappeared.
Description[]
From Erogrendel:
The bar was underground – literally – accessed by a staircase leading down from a South Boston apartment building, and the owners had taken full advantage of the basement aesthetic. The walls were exposed brick and peeling drywall, the lights were hardly bright enough to read the menu, and rough wooden beams kept the building above precariously propped up. It wasn’t a dive bar, but the owners really wanted it to be.[2]
From Seventh Circle, Ignition: Part II:
The Inferno Club was a fake dive bar beneath a South Boston apartment building. The lights were low, the pillars were rough wood, and the walls were peeling drywall over exposed brick – but every spot of the place was immaculately clean, as mandated by an owner who wanted to ape the rough and tumble vibe of Dorchester as well as the historical cleanliness of the North End.[3]
