Lindsay Lowell (née Hopper) (b. February 21, 1970)[1] is a character in Nathaniel J. Nelson's Seventh Circle, a perennial point of view character in the fifth serial, Pandora (serial).

Appearances[]

Lindsay is first referenced in Jessi: Part IV, in which Sasha Belanger dreams about seeing an emotionally abusive psychiatrist named Doctor Lowell. In Pandora: Part IV, it is revealed that Lindsay (the child followed in flashbacks throughout Pandora) has the married name Lowell, and is Sasha's licensed clinical social worker, implying that Sasha had already settled on seeing her when she had that dream.

Sasha's therapist is referenced throughout Pandora, but is not revealed to be Lindsay Hopper until Part IV, when Vinny and Cassie run into Sasha on her way out of a session, as they are entering to ask Lindsay about her paranormal experience.

Biography[]

Childhood[]

Lindsay was a child in 1970s Boston, unhappy with the reprimands of her teachers and the distant nature of her parents. On her fifth birthday, Lindsay was gifted a baby doll named Pandora.[2] At some point, her doll Pandora began speaking intelligently to Lindsay, though it was never confirmed whether the doll was truly sentient. Pandora encouraged Lindsay to commit acts of violence against her will, finally persuading her to kill her parents, though Lindsay lost her resolve after giving her mother a non-fatal stab.[3]

After stabbing her mother, Lindsay was taken to a psychiatric hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she was treated harshly and observed by Dr. Noss. Dr. Noss kept Pandora on hand, hoping to stimulate a change in Lindsay, who was now heavily medicated.[4]

On October 23, 1977, Dr. Noss burned Pandora in front of Lindsay, hoping to shatter the doll's hold on the girl. However, Lindsay heard Pandora speak for the first time in a long time: she screamed and swore at Lindsay as she burned, prompting a strong reaction from Lindsay despite the drugs.[5]

On February 21, 1988, Lindsay turned eighteen and was finally released from the mental institution. Having been given some money and a job lead, she wandered into Worcester, where she visited a diner and contemplated her future, staring at her prescribed medication.[6]

Adulthood[]

Lindsay attended the University of Massachusetts.[7] She married Mr. Lowell at some point.[8]
